ORMOC CITY, Philippines – Thirteen scholars of the city government here who graduated with honors each received a laptop from Mayor Richard Gomez and Rep. Lucy Torres-Gomez on Wednesday.

Ana Marie Quisagan and Gelymae Concon graduated magna cum laude while Laiza Cano-og, Grace Delima, Reamae Intanto, Jenna Mea Miriquillo, Rusel May Pernito, Ina Remetira, Aldrin Villamor, Renante Lumanta, Cybille Mae Pitogo, Ralyn Bating and Rovie Grace Torres graduated cum laude.

The congresswoman said she hopes the recipients would find their graduation gift helpful as they join the country’s workforce.

The mayor, on the other hand, said he is happy to see the products of his administration’s scholarship program.

Ormoc City has currently 395 scholars. Those enrolled in private schools get a maximum of P18,000 in tuition subsidy,  P2,000 book allowance, P3,000 uniform allowance per semester and P2,000 monthly stipend. They also get P3,000 in graduation assistance.

Torres-Gomez started the tradition of giving laptops to honor graduates when she was elected congresswoman in 2010.

The scholarship program was institutionalized by her husband when he assumed office in 2017.
