2 cops caught with liquor, tobacco in Bilibid
MANILA, Philippines – Two policemen assigned to the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) were caught smuggling liquor and tobacco into the state penitentiary yesterday.
The two policemen, both Special Weapons and Tactics unit members, were deployed by the National Capital Region Police Office to secure the demolition of illegal structures in the NBP’s maximum security compound, Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) spokesman Maj. Alberto Tapiru said in an interview.
He refused to name the two while an investigation is ongoing.
Tapiru said the two officers were frisked by prison guards, who found liquor in two 500-milliliter bottles of iced tea and 60 cuts of tobacco on their persons.
“They did not say who would receive the contraband, but they are definitely for a prisoner,” he said.
The two policemen have been “endorsed to their commandrs and it will be up to them to investigate the incident.”
