ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A six-month-old boy died when he slipped from the hands of his father in Barangay Pescadores, Guimbal, Iloilo on Wednesday night.

Reno Vales, 43, reportedly brought out his son, who had been incessantly crying, to calm him down.

Lt. Nelson Caro, Guimbal police chief, said Vales fell asleep atop a seawall with the baby lying on his chest.

Vales said he was awakened by a village watchman, who told him that he heard a baby crying.

The baby, who was found floating near the seawall, was declared dead on arrival at the Guimbal District Hospital.

The father admitted that prior to the incident, he drank liquor.
