New NCRPO chief to ban cops from playing golf

MANILA, Philippines — Incoming National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Brig. Gen. Debold Sinas will crack down on police officers playing golf, an official said yesterday.

“All policemen would be banned from playing golf because it would be a waste of time and money of the government,” said Col. Ronald Lee, deputy regional director for operations of the Central Visayas police, who is expected to join Sinas at the NCRPO.

“Even if the policemen have finished playing golf, all the topic of their conversation once they return to their respective offices would be golf so its a waste of government’s time and money,” he added.

Lee said Sinas, outgoing Central Visayas police director, wants the 20,000-strong NCRPO to focus on President Duterte’s war on drugs.

Sinas, who would assume command of the NCRPO during a turnover ceremony at Camp Bagong Diwa today, would also go hard on corrupt lawmen, especially “ninja cops,” according to Lee.

A member of the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class ‘87, Sinas would replace his classmate, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, who spent 16 months at the NCRPO and was promoted as The Chief of Directorial Staff of the Philippine National Police.

Eleazar is confident that Sinas would continue what he and PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde have started at the NCRPO, especially on internal cleansing and war on drugs.

“You will see it in his performance. Gen. Sinas is the perfect man for the job. We will help each other. I, as chief of directorial staff of PNP, I have a keen eye on Metro Manila, because Metro Manila remains as a show window of our country,” he said.
