Former Agusan Norte vice mayor nabbed over investment scam

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines — A former vice mayor of Nasipit town in Agusan del Norte who is now a radio broadcaster has been arrested over his alleged involvement in an investment scam.

Ronald Timogan was collared at his residence in Barangay 3, Nasipit on Friday night, Maj. Edgar Allan Serquina, Nasipit police chief, said yesterday.

The arrest was based on a warrant issued by Butuan Regional Trial Court Branch 33 Judge Isah Exhem Tanginan on Sept. 26.

Timogan was among those charged with syndicated estafa, a non-bailable offense, in connection with a Ponzi-type scheme allegedly perpetrated by Kapa Community Ministry International Inc. 

Timogan reportedly presented himself as KAPA coordinator in Butuan and Agusan del Norte.

He also encouraged listeners of his radio program to “donate” any amount to the religious organization in exchange for a 30 percent monthly return.
