2 dead, 20 hurt in Bukidnon road mishap
CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines — Two persons died and 20 others were injured when their bus rolled over along the highway in Impasugong, Bukidnon over the weekend.
The fatalities were identified as Marisol Marinay, 23, a teacher from Barangay Kawayan, and Mary Joy Tibay, a student from Malaybalay City.
Two passengers remained confined in a hospital yesterday.
Jessie Boy Lentorio, branch manager of Rural Transit Mindanao Inc., the operator of the bus, said the families of the fatalities received P200,000 in initial compensation.
Lentorio said the company also shouldered the medical expenses of those injured.
According to a police report, the bus was on its way to this city when the driver, Leomerne Velarde, 41, lost control of the wheel when he avoided an overtaking van in Sitio Bagong Silang, Barangay Impalutao at around 2:15 p.m.
