Fires hit Manila dorms, Quezon City mall
MANILA, Philippines — Fires destroyed dormitories in Manila and the warehouse of a mall in Quezon City since Wednesday night.
Four persons were injured and 150 families were left homeless when flames spread from the third floor of a three-story dormitory at the corner of San Marcelino and Sylvia street in Ermita, Manila at around 12:48 p.m. yesterday.
The fire reached fifth alarm before it was put out around three hours later.
Witnesses said the fire spread to adjacent dormitories and apartments.
Volunteer firefighter Ruel Nado reportedly fell from the roof of a two-story house.
Adamson University suspended classes but offered temporary shelter to people affected by the fire.
Firefighters said around 1,000 persons, including 900 students from Adamson and the Technological University of the Philippines, were affected by the fire.
In Quezon City, a fire broke out at the Fisher Mall’s four-story dispatching and receiving building along Quezon Avenue at around 11:27 p.m. on Wednesday.
The blaze reached third alarm, destroying around P100,000 worth of property, before it was put out an hour later.
No one was reported injured or killed in the fire.
