Cop, suspects slain in shootouts
TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, Philippines — A police officer and two robbery suspects were killed in a shootout in Ramon, Isabela on Friday.
Col. Mariano Rodriguez, Isabela police director, identified the fatalities as S/Sgt. Richard Gumarang; Cristobal Cristobal, a resident of Alaminos, Pangasinan, and Alden Francis Requindique of San Juan, Ilocos Sur.
Initial investigation showed Cristobal and Requindique were among four men in a red Toyota Innova who resisted arrest and fired at police officers when cornered in a rice field in Barangay Turod Bugallon Norte.
Another suspect identified as Alfred Solis was arrested.
Prior to the incident, Lorena Carag, 45, secretary of a construction company, reported to the police that she lost P10,000 in cash to robbers.
The suspects reportedly yielded an M16 rifle, a caliber .45 pistol and three cell phones.
Drug war
Meanwhile, in Bulacan, police said John Frederick Mallo was killed in a drug sting in Barangay Gaya-Gaya, San Jose del Monte City on Friday.
Eugenio Lopez and two men with aliases of Van and Jay allegedly shot it out with anti-narcotics agents in Barangay San Rafael I, also in San Jose del Monte, yesterday.
Police said 28 sachets of shabu, a 9mm revolver, two improvised shotguns, a caliber .38 revolver, marked money and drug paraphernalia were recovered from the fatalities.
In Quezon, Orlando Erno allegedly drew his gun when he sensed he had sold shabu to a police officer who posed as a buyer in Barangay Dalahican, Lucena City on Friday. – Ramon Efren Lazaro, Ed Amoroso
