Caloocan fiscal survives ambush
MANILA, Philippines — An inquest prosecutor survived an ambush while in his bulletproof vehicle in Caloocan near the city hall yesterday afternoon.
Elmer Susano had just boarded his vehicle after ordering take-out food from a Chinese restaurant at the corner of 9th Avenue and B. Serrano street when four motorcycle-riding men wearing helmets arrived and fired shots at around 3 p.m.
The bullets ricocheted from the vehicle, according to the staff of the Swanlake Restaurant.
Susano sped off in his Toyota Hilux, the gunmen following him for a few meters before fleeing, Caloocan police chief Col. Noel Flores said.
Susano had received death threats sent to his phone, Flores added.
Police recovered 13 bullet casings from a short firearm at the scene.
In May 2017, Caloocan assistant city prosecutor Diosdado Azarcon was gunned down in front of his house in West Grace Park by assailants riding a motorcycle.
