Liwayway intensifies as it leaves Philippines
MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon Liwayway intensified as it moved away from the Philippine area of responsibility.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said the eye of Liwayway was located 620 kilometers north-northeast of Basco, Batanes at about 4 p.m. yesterday.
With maximum sustained winds of 175 kms per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 215 kph, the typhoon is moving north at 15 kph.
Ilocos, the Cordilleras, Batanes, Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales and Bataan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the southwest monsoon.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms will be experienced in Eastern and Central Visayas, Caraga, Davao, Northern Mindanao and Soccsksargen due to the trough of a low-pressure area off Mindanao.
