MANILA, Philippines — Manila Mayor Isko Moreno has ordered the closure of shops selling tainted and expired meat products.

Moreno ordered the bureau of permits to revoke the licenses of stores and other establishments found selling smuggled meat products, especially those imported from China.

He issued the directive after authorities confiscated at least two tons of smuggled processed meat in Tondo.

Police said the meat products were supposed to be delivered to Chinese restaurants in Metro Manila.

On Sunday, personnel of the Manila Veterinary Inspection Board and National Meat Inspection Service seized around 65 kilos of banned pork, cow meat and Peking ducks at the Aranque Market.
