MANILA, Philippines — A police officer landed in jail after he allegedly shot dead a motorist in Bacoor, Cavite before dawn yesterday.

Senior M/Sgt. Herbert Salazar of the Manila Police District was reportedly drunk when he and Ferdinand Sanchez, 40, figured in a quarrel in Barangay Niog 2, according to Col. William Segun, Cavite police director.

Investigation showed Sanchez, who was in a vehicle, reportedly accosted Salazar and his friends for blocking the road.

Salazar and his friends were reportedly having a drinking session along the road.

The police officer reportedly pulled out a gun and shot Salazar on the forehead.

Salazar was arrested in a followup operation by members of the Bacoor police mobile patrol unit.

Probers said charges would be filed against Salazar. – Ed Amoroso
