Gun ban up in Southern Leyte, South Cotabato

MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is implementing a gun ban effective today in the first and second districts of Southern Leyte as well as in the first and third districts of South Cotabato.

The ban is in connection with the holding of the first regular elections for congressmen in the four legislative districts on Oct. 26.

“Bearing, carrying, or transporting firearms or other deadly weapons, unless authorized in writing by the Comelec is a prohibited,” the poll body said in a resolution issued over the weekend.

The ban will remain in effect until Nov. 10, the end of the election period.

Candidates may start filing their certificates of candidacy today until Wednesday.

Campaign period will start from Sept. 11 to Oct. 24, the Comelec said
