2 Taguig cops hurt in grenade blast
MANILA, Philippines — Two police officers were wounded when one of three grenades hurled at them exploded during a drug sting in Taguig City before dawn yesterday.
M/Sgt. Santiago Cordova and Cpl. Alnajim Abduhalim, both assigned with the Taguig Police Community Precinct 2, were taken to the hospital for treatment.
City police chief Col. Alexander Santos said Cordova and Abduhalim were conducting an anti-crime operation along Maguindanao street in Barangay New Lower Bicutan at around 1 a.m. when they spotted a suspicious-looking man.
When the policemen approached the man, they found he was carrying three hand grenades and a firearm.
Santos said the suspect resisted arrest, fired at the police officers and threw a grenade at them.
Police said the suspect escaped after the bomb attack.
