MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) received at least 269,087 applications after two weeks of voter registration.

Comelec spokesman James Jimenez said Calabarzon has the highest number of applications at 43,777. Ilocos has the highest number of registrants for the Sangguniang Kabataan elections at 5,880.

Jimenez said 159,126 are new registrants, of which 36,649 are aged 15 to 17 and 122,477 are 18 years old and above.

The Comelec said it processed 100,399 applications in only three days.

“All types of applications are accepted in the ongoing registration of voters – registration, transfer, change or corrections of entries, reactivation, inclusion and reinstatement of name on the list of voters,” Jimenez said.

The Comelec directed its field offices to conduct satellite registration to reach out to more qualified voters.

The poll body said it is expecting two million new registrants, and would accept applications even during holidays.

Voter registration, which resumed on Aug. 1, will end on Sept. 30.
