Pasay village chief slain

Ralph Edwin Villanueva - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A barangay captain was gunned down by motorcycle-riding assailants in Pasay City on Wednesday night.

Barangay 37, Zone 3 captain Jojo “Jethro” Balais, 42, was riding his motorcycle along Gil Puyat Avenue when two assailants on a motorcycle came from behind and shot him in front of the Pasay City Academy, police said.

The assailants sped off toward Roxas Boulevard. Balais was declared dead on arrival at the Manila Adventist Medical Center.
In 2011, Balais survived being shot as he was refereeing a basketball game.

Pasay Mayor Emi Rubiano, in a Facebook post late Wednesday, ordered city police chief Col. Bernard Yang to conduct a thorough investigation of the murder.
