MALOLOS, Philippines — A police officer was wounded in a shooting while serving a warrant of arrest in San Jose del Monte, Bulacan on Friday.

Patrolman Rustico Madla suffered a gunshot wound in his left thigh.

Madla was with a team of police officers who tracked down Julito Fernandez, alias Bunsoy, who is wanted for murder and attempted homicide, at the house of his relatives in Barangay Citrus, Col. Chito Bersaluna, Bulacan police director, said.

Bersaluna said Fernandez also hurled a grenade at law enforcers. It did not explode.

He said the suspect also held hostage his wife and two children.

Fernandez surrendered after almost two hours of negotiation. He reportedly yielded a fragmentation grenade, a caliber .45 pistol and the unexploded grenade.
