MANILA, Philippines — Damage to infrastructure due to the quakes that rocked Batanes over the weekend has reached P292.85 million, according to the Department of Public Works and Highways.

The DPWH said around 1,000 public buildings, roads, slope protection structures and houses in Barangays Sta. Lucia, San Rafael, Sta. Rosa, Sta. Maria and Raele in Itbayat were affected.

Barangay San Rafael suffered the heaviest damage at P103.36 million.

Meanwhile, two Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) vessels sailed for Batanes yesterday to distribute relief goods and medicine.

PCG commandant Admiral Elson Hermogino said the BRP Malabrigo and BRP Capones would remain in the waters off Batanes to conduct maritime patrol.

President Duterte directed the PCG during his visit to Basco to strengthen its security operations in the country’s territorial waters in Northern Luzon
