Cop kills man who stabbed nephew dead
MANILA, Philippines — A man arrested for killing his four-year-old nephew was shot dead after he allegedly tried to seize his jailer’s gun at the Manila Police District (MPD) Station 2 in Tondo Monday night.
Edmundo Perucho, 51, was in his jail cell when he asked permission to go to the restroom at around 8:28 p.m., said MPD Station 2 commander Lt. Col. Melvin Montante.
Once outside his cell, Perucho reportedly grabbed the gun of S/Sgt. Alfred Luigi Tan. The gun went off during the scuffle, hitting Perucho.
Montante called for an investigation and turned over Tan’s 9mm pistol to MPD homicide section investigator Cpl. Rodel Benitez for ballistics analysis.
Tan, on the other hand, was put in restrictive custody while under investigation.
Child killer
Perucho was drinking with his brother-in-law, Gener dela Cruz, in the latter’s house. Dela Cruz is the younger brother of Perucho’s wife.
Witnesses said Perucho blamed their family for his wife’s alleged extramarital affair, but Dela Cruz said their family did not know about the affair and did not condone it. The suspect went home after the drinking session.
Surveillance camera footage showed Dela Cruz’s son, Lanz Genesis, playing along the alley leading to their house at around 1 p.m. A few minutes later, the boy was seen walking toward Perucho’s house.
Barangay officials called police after around 40 minutes when Perucho ran into the alley, holding a bloody kitchen knife, and shouting in Filipino, “Kill me, I just killed a boy!”
Lanz Genesis’ body was found in Perucho’s house with 11 stab wounds in the chest.
