EDSA bus ban dry run set
MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) would push through with the dry run of its ban on provincial buses along EDSA by next week, an official said yesterday.
“Tentative (date) is Aug. 6 or 7, Tuesday or Wednesday,” MMDA general manager Jose Arturo Garcia Jr. said in an interview aired over radio dzMM.
The MMDA would meet with other government offices like the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) “to check if new routes have been fixed,” he added.
“Even if it is only a dry run, we do not want no means of transfer for our commuters from the provinces,” he added.
The agency would implement Metro Manila Council Resolution 19-002, which ordered Metro Manila’s local government units to cancel business permits of bus terminals along EDSA.
The buses would instead use terminals designated by government: one in Valenzuela City, one in Sta. Rosa City in Laguna, the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange and the Araneta bus terminal in Cubao, Quezon City.
