Abandoned motorbike causes stir near Army HQ
MANILA, Philippines — An abandoned motorcycle outside the Philippine Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City caused alarm yesterday after bomb-sniffing dogs sat in front of the vehicle during inspection by military personnel.
Security forces immediately cordoned off the area, causing a monstrous traffic jam along Lawton Avenue near the Army gymnasium.
Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala, spokesman for the Army, said the motorcycle was left unattended at 12 noon.
“As a precautionary measure, military personnel inspected the motorcycle to determine if there were explosives attached to it,” Zagala said.
“K9 dogs searched the motorcycle and found no bomb,” he added.
Security has been tightened at all military camps following the twin bomb attacks on an Army facility in Indanan, Sulu on June 28.
