1 dies, 5 hurt ?in road mishap

MANILA, Philippines — A worker of an internet provider died and five others were injured after they were hit by a dump truck in Mandaluyong City before dawn on Tuesday.

Police said the truck driven by Raul Petervo was traversing the eastbound lane of Ortigas Avenue in Barangay Wack-Wack when the accident happened at around 2 a.m.

Brig. Gen. Nolasco Bathan, director of the Eastern Police District, said Petervo lost control of the vehicle due to the slippery road.

The truck hit the victims who were installing a fiber optic cable along the road.

Jayzel Arada, 28, died while undergoing treatment at The Medical City in Pasig City.

His co-workers Joseph Bronola, 27; Julius Miranda, 30; Jonard Bronola, 24; Rolly Balberan, 27, and Rene Deus Reyes, 26, were injured.

The truck driver fled after the accident.
