Surrender, KAPA founder told

MANILA, Philippines — Kapa Community Ministry International Inc. founder Joel Apolinario should surrender and face the charges filed against him, Philippine National Police chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde said yesterday.

“Mas maganda siguro na mag-surrender na lang sya peacefully and answer the allegations in court para less complications,” Albayalde told reporters in Cagayan de Oro.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed charges of syndicated estafa, a non-bailable offense, against Apolinario and 13 other KAPA officials – Nonita Urbano, Junnie Apolinario, Nelia Niño, Maria Pella Sevilla, Jouelyn del Castillo, Cristobal Barabad, Joji Jusay, Reyna Apolinario, Modie Dagala, Benigno Tipan Jr., Marnilyn Maturan, Ricky Taer and Margie Danao – over an alleged investment scam.

The NBI also filed charges for violation of Republic Act 8799 or the Securities and Regulation Code against the respondents. The Securities and Exchange Commission filed a similar complaint against the KAPA officials.

President Duterte had earlier ordered the closure of KAPA offices amid complaints that the religious organization is duping its members to invest in a Ponzi-type scheme.
