MANILA, Philippines — A flood control project worth P778 million was inaugurated in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental yesterday.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar and Japanese Ambassador Koji Haneda led the unveiling of the marker of the Tagoloan River basin flood control project.

The project is among the flood-risk management programs implemented by the Department of Public Works and Highways-Unified Project Management Office-Flood Control Management Cluster to mitigate damage in vulnerable areas within the three principal river systems in Lower Cagayan, Imus and Tagoloan.

Funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency, the project involved the construction of a 692-meter upstream and 1.9-kilometer downstream structures as well as excavation works and drainage improvement.

“We would like to thank the government of Japan for its continued support in the Duterte administration’s infrastructure program that aims to provide quality and safe infrastructure facilities to propel national economic growth,” Villar said.

He said the project would protect residents of Tagoloan and neighboring coastal areas.
