Reward up for arrest of student’s killer
MANILA, Philippines — A reward of P100,000 was offered yesterday for information leading to the arrest of a security guard accused of killing a Grade 7 student in Calamba City, Laguna on Thursday.
“I hope the reward will help in the early resolution of the crime. Nababagalan ako sa paglutas at pagdakip. I want the suspect arrested as soon as possible to give justice to the boy,” Laguna Gov. Ramil Hernandez, who offered the reward, told The STAR yesterday.
Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police director, said a manhunt is ongoing for Renan Valderama, who shot the boy during his class. The suspect reportedly gave four addresses in Calamba City and Bicol.
Matta said probers are eyeing a love angle as the motive for the killing.
The victim, 15, and the suspect were reportedly lovers and had been living together after the mother of the student was arrested for illegal drugs.
