850 MRT-3 passengers? offloaded due to defective door

Robertzon Ramirez - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — At least 850 passengers were offloaded from a northbound train of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) due to a defective door during yesterday morning’s rush hour.

The MRT-3 management said the commuters were unloaded after one of the train’s doors malfunctioned at the Shaw Boulevard station in Mandaluyong City before 7 a.m.

The passengers were transferred to the next train, which arrived after a few minutes.

Officials said the train would undergo preventive maintenance and replacement of door components.

They apologized to commuters for the inconvenience.

The MRT-3 management said the incident may have been caused by “leaning on the door or forcing it open.”

Passengers were urged not to lean on train doors to avoid similar incidents.

The Department of Transportation had warned commuters that they would be penalized for causing train door failure.
