Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — The family of Myrrhaquel Singson may soon find justice, after a cousin who admitted to slashing the 12-year-old girl’s throat was formally charged before the Caloocan Regional Trial Court with homicide.

The criminal information against King Angelo Sese for Myrrhaquel’s murder landed in the sala of Caloocan Regional Trial Court Branch 125 Judge Rodolfo Azucena Jr., the judge who convicted three police officers of killing 17-year-old Kian delos Santos.

Sese, 22, is a son of Myrrhaquel’s maternal aunt.

Surrendered by his family to the National Bureau of Investigation, Sese admitted being under in the influence of illegal drugs when he slashed his cousin’s throat after he broke into her parents’ house in Bagumbong, Caloocan on Jan. 23.

Myrrhaquel, a student of St. Benedict School of Novaliches and the youngest in the family, went home early from school after her exams and was alone when she was killed.

In a May 13 resolution indicting Sese for the girl’s murder, Caloocan prosecutor Armando Cavalida found probable cause due to a closed-circuit television footage showing the suspect near Myrrhaquel’s house after the killing.

The footage also showed Sese wearing a a sweatshirt he stole from the house, the fiscal said.

Two cell phones, including Myrrhaquel’s, and a car key were recovered from the suspect.
