ILOILO CITY, Philippines — A nurse from Numancia, Aklan died of dengue Friday here.

Edniel Gamboa, a resident of Barangay Estancia, Kalibo, Aklan, was being treated for dengue fever when he died at the Iloilo Doctors Hospital.

Gamboa, a public health nurse from Numancia, had been experiencing fever a few days before he sought treatment.

He had been caring for his sick mother before he was hospitalized.

While confined at the intensive care unit last June 19, several of his friends sought help in social media for type A+ blood since Gamboa was in critical condition.

Meanwhile, dyKR-Kalibo radio reported that dengue cases in Aklan have increased.

According to physician Cornelio Cuachon Jr., provincial health officer, Aklan recorded 14 deaths due to dengue from Jan. 1 to June 22, including Gamboa.

Kalibo town recorded the most number of dengue cases at 355; followed by Balete, 155; Banga, 130; New Washington, 121; and Numancia, 115.

The town of Altavas had 69 dengue cases while Madalag recorded 11.
