Ambulance collides with truck; 3 dead

SAN JUAN, La Union, Philippines — Three persons died and three others were seriously injured when an ambulance collided with a delivery truck in Barangay Poblacion  in this town before dawn yesterday. 

Samuel Hufano, 59, a resident of Pao Norte, San Fernando City, was declared dead on arrival at the Bacnotan District Hospital, Maj. Silverio Ordinado Jr., La Union police information officer, said.    

Hufano’s wife Cecilia and Jessie Acorda of Valenzuela City were declared dead on arrival at the Ilocos Training and Regional Medical Center.

Injured were the daughter of the Hufano couple, Desiree, 15; ambulance driver Paulino delos Santos, 62, and an unidentified woman, who remained unconscious at the Lorma Medical Center yesterday. 

Initial investigation showed the accident occurred on a curved portion of the road.

The truck driver, Sebastian Torecho, 50, was arrested. – Marc Jason Cayabyab
