Hundreds displaced in Sultan Kudarat clan war

John Unson - The Philippine Star

SULTAN KUDARAT, Philippines — More than 300 families have been displaced in gunfights between two warring groups in Barangay Molon, Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.

Police said the clash between the groups of Mike Binago and Salik Adam started over the weekend.

Fridaliza Gazo of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the displaced residents are staying in nearby Barangay Ned in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.

Maj. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana of the 6th Infantry Division said military units were asked to intervene to prevent a spillover of the conflict.

A 19-year-old villager, Richard Tulik, was killed when his horse stepped on a booby trap.

The leaders of the two groups are said to be members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front’s Biwang Brigade. – Ramil Bajo
