MANILA, Philippines — Former Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) chairman Camilo Sabio was apprehended by police in Quezon City on Tuesday in connection with his pending case before the Sandiganbayan over alleged anomalous cash advances.

The 83-year-old Sabio was arrested at his house in Barangay Sta. Mesa Heights at around 3:45 p.m., according to Brig. Gen. Joselito Esquivel Jr., director of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

Eight police officers from the warrant and subpoena section of the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit served a warrant of arrest on Sabio.

The anti-graft court’s Second Division has issued a warrant for Sabio’s arrest for violating Article 218 of the Revised Penal Code.

The court set a bail of P6,000 for his temporary liberty.

The case stemmed from the complaint filed against Sabio by the Office of the Ombudsman after he allegedly received P350,000 in cash advances for his supposed field and activity operating expenses  in December 2008.

The ombudsman said Sabio failed to liquidate the cash advances as provided under the law.
