Fire hits Caloocan; 100 families homeless
MANILA, Philippines — Around 100 families were left homeless in a fire that lasted for six hours in Caloocan City before dawn yesterday.
The fire, which started at past 2 a.m., reached Task Force Alpha at around 3 a.m. and destroyed 50 houses along Heroes Del 96 Road, DM Compound in Barangay 73.
Arson probers said they have yet to determine the cause of the fire.
City fire marshal Lt. Col. Stephen Requina said the blaze broke out at a three-story house owned by Percibal Amba.
The fire was declared under control before 6 a.m.
Damage to property was estimated at P6 million.
Fire Officer 2 Patrick Lenaming along with residents Vimwel Zalora, Areeya Bas, Ailine Ronato and two minors suffered minor injuries.
The local government provided meals and medical assistance to the fire victims, according to city social welfare officer Obet Quizon.
In Quezon City, a fire hit the three-story building of the National Printing Office in Barangay Pinyahan on Monday night.
No one was reported hurt in the fire, which only reached first alarm.
