700 MRT-3 passengers ?offloaded after electrical glitch
MANILA, Philippines — Around 700 commuters of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) were offloaded between the Guadalupe and Buendia stations in Makati after a northbound train encountered an electrical failure during yesterday morning’s rush hour.
The MRT-3 management said the passengers were unloaded at around 8:17 a.m. and transferred to another train a few minutes after the incident.
No one was reported injured during the incident.
The MRT-3 said the affected train gained traction at around 8:25 a.m. after technicians responded to the site. The train will be put on preventive maintenance.
Transport officials said the electrical failure could have been caused by worn-out electrical sub-components such as the main chopper of the train’s motor and insulator.
The MRT-3 has apologized to commuters for the incident.
