Public warned vs medicine sold online
MANILA, Philippines — The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday warned the public to refrain from purchasing medicine being sold online, saying these can be harmful to health.
In an advisory, FDA officer-in-charge Director General Rolando Enrique Domingo said consumers should not buy medicine sold through the internet.
He said unlike other products purchased online, “medicine may cause side effects and health problems if not stored properly.”
Domingo advised the public to seek medical advice from doctors or pharmacists before taking any medicine.
He also warned consumers against counterfeit medicine being sold online.
The FDA urged the public to purchase medicine only from licensed drug stores and pharmacies, adding that online selling of these products is prohibited.
Domingo said they allow online ordering services provided that the seller has an existing FDA license.
“Buying medicine through the internet can be dangerous because there is no guarantee that it is genuine,” he said.
