3 killed in Laguna ambush
MANILA, Philippines — A former barangay official allegedly involved in the illegal drug trade and his two companions were killed in an ambush in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna yesterday.
Col. Eleazar Matta, Laguna police director, said Nestro Callanga, former kagawad of Barangay Sta. Cruz, was in a car with three other people when they were attacked in Barangay Dita at around 8:30 a.m.
Initial investigation showed unidentified men in a van and on a motorcycle blocked the vehicle of the victims and opened fire.
Sta. Rosa police chief Lt. Col. Eugene Orate identified the two other fatalities as Milencio Patapat and Carlos Manimtim.
Callanga’s eight-month-old son was wounded and taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said Callanga was on the drug watchlist and a surrenderee. An investigation is ongoing. – Ed Amoroso
