Strong quake jolts Davao Oriental anew

MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude 6.1 earthquake shook Davao Oriental yesterday, a day after it was hit by a tremor with a magnitude of 6.2.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said the epicenter of the quake, which occurred at about 5:45 p.m., was located 119 kilometers southeast of Governor Generoso town.

The temblor was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 80 kilometers.

It was felt at Intensity 5, which is classified as strong, in Mati City and Intensity 4, or moderately strong in Alabel, Sarangani.

Phivolcs said no damage was reported, but aftershocks should be expected.

The quake on Friday was also felt at Intensity 5 in Mati City and Intensity 4 in the cities of Davao and General Santos.
