Number of city ordinance violators breaches 1-million mark
MANILA, Philippines — The number of persons arrested for violation of various ordinances in Metro Manila breached the one million mark since their implementation began on June 13 last year, a police official said yesterday.
National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar said the number of violators of city ordinances from June 13 last year to May 31 (yesterday) is now at 1,069,691.
Eleazar directed his five district directors to continue apprehending ordinance violators to instill discipline among residents.
“We should not lower our guard in the campaign against ordinance violators until Metro Manilans realize that they should follow the rule of law to the letter for them to evade jail time,” said Eleazar.
Topping the list of offenders are the smoking ban violators with 247,710 or 23.16 percent of the arrests made.
Coming in at far second were minors violating curfew hours with 65,650 arrests or 6.14 percent.
