Kalinga polls: Losing gubernatorial bet files protest

TABUK CITY, Kalinga, Philippines — Kalinga Vice Gov. James Edduba, who lost by only 10 votes to Tabuk City Mayor Ferdinand Tubban in the gubernatorial race, has filed an election protest. 

Tubban got 39,148 votes against Edduba’s 39,138. 

Edduba said his supporters are demanding a recount and an explanation on 25 missing ballots as well as delayed transmission of results from Barangay Sucbot in Pinukpuk.

 “I was telling them to just let go... I am tired, but the volunteers are insisting... They also want to know what happened,” he said.  

“Our lawyers are... in charge. They are doing what needs to be done,” Edduba added.

Kalinga provincial election officer Ricardo Lampac had earlier explained that the delay in the transmission of results was due to defective vote counting machines.
