Wreckage of missing trainer plane found; pilot, student missing

MANILA, Philippines — The wreckage of a trainer plane reported missing in Occidental Mindoro on Friday was located 43.52 kilometers south of Mindoro strait at about 11:28 a.m. yesterday.

According to a report received by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) operations center, debris of the aircraft was found floating at around 12:06 a.m.

The pilot of the plane, Jose Nelson Yapparcon, and student Saudi Abdullah Alsharif remain missing.

CAAP Aircraft Accident Investigation and Inquiry Board probers were dispatched at the crash site.

The Beechcraft Baron 55 trainer plane went missing shortly after it took off from the San Jose Airport at about 8:13 a.m.

Control officials said the last known position of the aircraft at about 8:23 a.m. on Friday was 16 nautical miles south of San Jose. – Evelyn Macairan
