Former anti-drug cop survives ambush in Quezon City
MANILA, Philippines — A former anti-narcotics policeman was wounded in an ambush in Quezon City on Wednesday night.
Melvin Castillo was about to board his sport utility vehicle along N.S. Amoranto street at around 9:45 p.m. when two men on a motorcycle approached him.
The back rider shot Castillo several times, police said.
Castillo was reported to be in critical condition at the Chinese General Hospital.
Sources said Castillo was a member of the defunct National Capital Region Police Office Anti-Illegal Drugs Unit.
He was supposedly one of the men assigned with retired Chief Inspector Roberto Razon during his time at the NCRPO anti-illegal drugs unit in 2016.
Razon was killed in an ambush in Pasay City late last year.
Castillo was last assigned to the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in 2017 but he supposedly chose to go AWOL or absent without leave.
