2 mayors in Rody’s narco list win polls
MANILA, Philippines — Two other local officials in President Duterte’s narco list were among the winners in the mayoral elections.
Roberto Malijao Luna Jr. of Lingig, Surigao del Sur, who was arrested two days before election day, was reelected after he garnered 6,939 votes.
Luna’s closest rival, barangay chairman Edgar Acdog, who was also detained for alleged possession of unlicensed firearms, got 5,018 votes
Luna’s wife Marites attended his proclamation yesterday.
Luna was arrested after a raid on his house in Barangay Poblacion reportedly yielded a caliber .45 pistol, a rifle grenade, dried marijuana leaves and ammunition.
Police said P100 bills amounting to P2 million and sample ballots, which they believe Luna would use to buy votes, were confiscated.
In Rizal, Vice Mayor Dennis Hernandez won as mayor of Rodriguez.
Hernandez defeated his closest rival Romy Grecia by 2,003 votes. – Emmanuel Tupas
