4 Pangasinan mayors elected congressmen

MANILA, Philippines — Four mayors in Pangasinan won as representatives in their districts.

Bolinao Mayor Arnold Celeste beat Thomas Orbos in the first district while  Bugallon Mayor Jumel Anthony Espino defeated board member Raul Sison in the second district.

Espino will succeed Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil,who won as mayor of Lingayen.  Binalonan Mayor Ramon Guico III defeated fifth district Rep. Amado Espino Jr. 

Tayug Mayor Tyrone Agabas will take over the post to be vacated by his wife, sixth district Rep. Marlyn Agabas, after he handily won over his opponent Myrna Custodio. 

Ebdanes, Delosos

In Zambales, former governor Hermogenes “Jun” Ebdane regained his post as he defeated Gov. Amor Deloso.

Ebdane garnered 151,667 votes while Deloso got only 128,692.

Ebdane was Zambales governor for two terms, but lost to Deloso in the 2016 elections.

Ebdane’s runningmate Subic Mayor Jay Khonghun won over Deloso’s runningmate Angel Magsaysay by a margin of 80,000 votes.

Deloso’s son Ad Hebert Deloso also lost to Ebdane’s son Rundy as mayor of Iba town.

Albano, Dy, Padaca

In Isabela, Rep. Rodolfo Albano III and Gov. Faustino Dy III were proclaimed governor and vice governor, respectively, yesterday.

Albano garnered 576,627 votes  while his rival Tony Aliangan got only 21,042 votes.

Dy got 483,392 votes to beat his perennial rival, former governor Grace Padaca, who got only 166,972.

NPC bets, Guingonas

In Tarlac, candidates of the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC) dominated the local elections.

Both Tarlac Gov. Susan Yap and Vice Gov. Casada David were successful in their reelection bids.

The winners in the three congressional districts in the province are also all NPC members. They are Charlie Cojuangco, who ran unopposed in the first district, former governor Victor Yap in the second district and Noel Villanueva in the third district.

In the mayoral race, 15 of the 18 winning candidates are NPC bets.

In Misamis Oriental, the Guingonas ended their reign after Gingoog Mayor Stella Maire Gungona and Vice Mayor Ruthie Guingona lost in their bids to switch posts.

Gingoog Vice Mayor Erick Cañosa and Rep. Peter Unabia won as mayor and vice mayor, respectively.

Delayed proclamation

Meanwhile, the winning candidates for governor, vice governor and board members in Hagonoy, Marilao and Baliwag and congressional candidates in the first, second and fourth district in Bulacan have yet to be proclaimed.

The election returns have yet to be submitted to the provincial board of canvassers as of 5 p.m. yesterday.
