NCRPO ready for midterm polls
MANILA, Philippines — The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) is prepared to secure the midterm elections on Monday, an official said yesterday.
“The vote counting machines (VCMs) and other election paraphernalia, like the official ballots, were delivered to 8,298 polling centers in Metro Manila. We are securing them until and after the May 13 elections,” said NCRPO chief Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.
The VCMs will undergo final testing and will be sealed over the weekend in the presence of officials from the Commission on Elections, teachers and police officers.
At least 16,000 police officers would be deployed to ensure peace and order on Monday.
Eleazar said he is confident the elections would be peaceful and orderly as the police has seized 1,498 loose firearms since the Comelec imposed a gun ban on Jan. 13. The ban will be in effect until June 13.
He also directed the NCRPO’s five district directors to “always ask directives from the Comelec” on possible security problems they encounter in voting precincts.
