3 die in Negros road mishap

BACOLOD CITY, Philippines — A tricycle driver and his two passengers died in an accident along the highway in Barangay Talaban, Himamaylan, Negros Occidental on Thursday night.

Lt. Col. Ervin Glen Provido, Himamaylan police chief, said Faith Joy Hontiveros, 15, and Joshua Valdez died at the scene. Tricycle driver Kevin Jay Montaño died while being treated in a hospital at around 1 a.m. yesterday.

The driver of the van, Dario Pontino,  his two helpers and six other tricycle passengers were injured and brought to the Himamaylan District Hospital for treatment.

Provido said Montaño was overtaking another vehicle when his tricycle crashed into the van in the opposite lane.

Pontino is being held at the police lockup.
