Togo man nabbed for fake visa

Rudy Santos - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A traveler from the West African country of Togo was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) on Tuesday for carrying a fake Canadian visa, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said yesterday.

Amevi Gbansouvi, 31, arrived as a transit passenger from Guangzhou, China and his final destination was Toronto, Canada. He was apprehended by the BI’s Travel Control and Enforcement Unit for presenting a fake Electronic Travel Authorization to enter Canada.

“He wanted to use Manila as a jump-off point to gain illegal entry to Canada but his plan was foiled by our officers who discovered the bogus document in his possession,” BI Port Operations Division chief Grifton Medina said.

He added that Gbansouvi is being held in the BI detention facility at Camp Bagong Diwa pending his deportation.
