Zamboanga Norte judge killed
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A judge in Zamboanga del Norte was shot dead in Liloy town yesterday.
Regional Trial Court 9 Branch 28 Judge Reymar Lacaya was in the parking lot of the justice hall at around 3 p.m. when he was shot by an unidentified assailant, Maj. Helen Galvez, Zamboanga peninsula polcie spokesperson, said.
Lacaya was pronounced dead on arrival at the Liloy District Hospital.
Probers said the killing could be work-related.
Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin said law enforcement agencies should expedite their investigation to ensure the arrest and prosecution of the killers of Lacaya.
“The entire judiciary condemns in the strongest possible terms the killing of Judge Lacaya. I am urging authorities to exert their best efforts for the immediate apprehension of those responsible for... his death,” Bersamin said.
Lacaya had been in judicial service since 1999. He was transferred to Liloy from Sindangan three months ago.
