Surigao Sur mayor held for guns, drugs
MANILA, Philippines — A mayor on the drug watchlist of President Duterte was arrested yesterday for alleged possession of unlicensed guns, explosives and illegal drugs.
Mayor Roberto Luna Jr. of Lingig, Surigao del Sur yielded three caliber .45 pistols, a rifle grenade, a KG9 machine pistol, 19 rounds of ammunition and an undetermined quantity of marijuana during a raid on his house in Barangay Poblacion at around 3:20 a.m., Maj. Gen. Amador Corpus, Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group director, said.
Regional Trial Court 11th Judicial Region Branch 41 Judge Catalina Tare-Palacio issued the search warrant.
Corpus said P100 bills amounting to P2 million and sample ballots, which they believe Luna would use to buy votes, were also seized.
Luna is seeking reelection.
