Woman hits CIDG over husband’s slay

Marc Jayson Cayabyab - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — A woman called out the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) for claiming her husband was killed in an alleged encounter at their house in Barangay 12, Caloocan before dawn yesterday.

Lala Pineda denied that her husband, Noel Pineda, 47, fought back, saying her family was asleep at around 2 a.m. when CIDG operatives barged in and asked everyone to get out of their house, except for her husband.

Their youngest son was the last to see him alive, Lala said. Their son saw Noel on his knees and the police officers pinning him down on his back.

They heard five successive gunshots, followed by two more five minutes later. It was only two hours later when they were allowed inside, Lala said.

Five gunshot wounds on his chest belied the alleged encounter, she said.

Lala said the .38 caliber improvised revolver and illegal drugs were planted by the police.
