20,000 cops to secure polls in Western Visayas, Central Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The Western Visayas police has deployed 9,345 of its personnel to render election duties starting yesterday.

At least 2,494 members of Mobile Force companies, who will form part of quick reaction forces, were also dispatched in election areas of concern.

Brig. Gen John Bulalacao, Western Visayas police chief, said each of the 3,554 polling precincts would be manned by two police officers.

Bulalacao said all units are equipped with patrol vehicles, motorcycles and communication equipment.

The sendoff ceremony and turnover of resources and forces to be deployed for poll duty was held at  Camp Delgado in Iloilo City yesterday.

In Central Luzon, at least 9,297 police officers were mobilized for election duties, according to Brig. Gen. Joel Napoleon Coronel.

The sendoff ceremony was held at Camp Olivas in San Fernando, Pampanga.

Coronel said personnel assigned to do desk work would also deployed in polling precincts to ensure peaceful and orderly elections.

Coronel urged the public to report on any unscrupulous activity through hotline numbers 09985985330 and 09176235700 or the Central Luzon police office’s  Facebook or Twitter accounts.

In Zamboanga peninsula, around 1,500 police officers backed by Coast Guard and military personnel were deployed, also yesterday, to secure election paraphernalia. – Ric Sapnu, Roel Pareño, Ding Cervantes, Ramon Efren Lazaro
