Quake swarms hit Caraga

BUTUAN CITY , Philippines  —  At least 136 mild quakes shook Caraga in the past three days, records from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology showed.

Phivolcs said the region was hit by 10 tremors yesterday, the strongest with a magnitude of 3.5. The tremor jolted Lingig, Surigao del Sur at around 3:46 a.m.

General Luna town in Surigao del Norte was hit by 125 mild quakes since Sunday.

Earthquke swarms were also experienced in Claver, Dapa, Burgos and Sta. Monica towns also in Surigao del Norte; Cortes, Lingig, Cagwait, Marihatag, Bayabas and Tandag City in Surigao del Sur, and La Paz, Loreto, Prosperidad and Bayugan City in Agusan del Sur.

Phivolcs said the series of tremors, all tectonic in origin, had magnitudes ranging from 1.6 to 5.5.
